Backup operations master?

By Shimla ·
I would be grateful if someone could advise on the basic steps for the configuration of a backup / replication server.

Were have a single level domain with one server running Windows Server 2003 with the following roles & server Apps:-

Exchange 2003
SQL 2000
ISA 2000
File server role

Is it possible to configure the new server to automatically adopt these roles & the necessary FSMO roles in the event of a hardware failure of the above?

to answer your question "configure the new server to automatically adopt these roles" the answer is no. Servers don't automatically assign themselves roles.

You have to configure a second server DC that will be used for redundancy with the roles necessary for the network to function.

note: you mention Exchange, ISA Server, SQL. To have a backup server in case of disaster, you have to cluster them. One fails then the others will keep the network operational.
