Basic DNS set up with errors on DCDIAG

By dave ·
Am adding Windows 7 PCs as well as a 2008 R2 Domain Controller to our domain. They can not connect to the 2000 Server (Domain Controller) Diagnosis thus far...

I am getting errors on the single Windows 2000 Domain Controller. It is the king of the forest as well. We run DCDIAG and it tells us the following:

GUID DNS name could not be resolved to an IP address. Check items such as the DNS server, DHCP and server name. Although the GUID DNS name (._msdcs.domain-name.local) couldn't be resolved, the server name (Server) resolved to the IP address ( and was pingable. Check that the IP address is registered correctly with the DNS server.

This is affecting our install of Windows 7 PCs as well as our new Domain Controller 2008 R2.

I will be trying the following links advice when I return on Monday.

Will keep you posted
