Basic home networking Q regarding use of a 2nd access point

I wonder if some kind soul can help. We recently got a garden office, and the company doing the electrics agreed to extend our WiFi capability with a 2nd access point in there, since it’s a long way from the router.

My assumption would be that it would be a consolidated network, but what we actually have is 2 SSIDs, so you have to switch when you move. I’m sure this isn’t the most elegant of setups, and means in the garden or office I can’t access our NAS drive or music streamer on the network for example, I can only really get internet access.

    The equipment in question is:

Router – Propietary Virgin Media home broadband – but actually an Arris TG2492LG-85

AP – I THINK Ubiquiti UniFi nanoHD, run on POE from our router.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide of how to change this, so our 2 networks are consolidated and I can access all my good stuff? I’ve logged into the router and can see the AP, think I have to do something to do with DHCP, but I’m not really a network guy and so am likely to balls it all up.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Keir
