Beeps coming fromNotebook sound card

By fischer_dave ·
I have a Thinkpad 390e with the ESS Solo Soundcard

There's these strange beeps that come through the speakers and the headphone jack. It sounds like it's from a drive spinning, but it is very consistant, regardless of drive activity, every 4-5 seconds you'll hear three rapid beeps. The volume controller in windows doesn't affect it, I can mute all and it's still there. If anybody can help, I owe you my sanity.

Beeps coming fromNotebook sound card

My first thought on this is a system warning.

Perhaps a low battery sound, or a low backup battery.

If you have the manual, check it over for beep codes.

What operating system are you running on your PC? As there is a known problem with IBM ThinkPad Sound Cards and power management. What happens is that the Power Management keeps on trying to turn the sound card on and off (causing the Beeps). So what you need to do is disable the power management for the sound card. Or re-install the OS but install the sound card drivers before you install the Power Management software.
