By mike ·
My cd-rom is intermitently being recognized by my bios,1 in every 15 reboots, sometimes it shows up in windows, sometimes not requiring a reboot.
Help, I can't boot from cd, I have a MSI motherboard,Athalon XP 2200,samsung cd-rom,optorite cd-rw.

Install the latest drivers for your motherboard. Make sure your drive in configured correctly for slave or master. Uninstall the drive in device manager and let windows detect it. If your drive uses DMA channels, make sure they are enabled in device manager.

Make sure you set slave and master on them, with the jumpers in back. Make sure the primary IDE connector on your MB is used for the hard drive.

Mscdex should be on the boot disk if it has cd rom suport. Try this, use the Boot disk and hit f8 when starting windows flashes on the screen. Choose step by step confermation. watch the messages as each driver loads. When it loads cdide.sys it should say that the controller was detected. Then another .sys driver is loaded for the cd rom and see if it is detected. If no messages try a /v switch or similar (use the /? switch for help)
