Blaster worm disabld by removing index

By sanhanagain ·
Windows XP with Norton Anti-virus 2002 (fully updated) Blaster repair from MS run and unsuccessful. Helping a family member & running out of time, I was unable to download any MS updates because of certification file corruption so I disabled the BLASTER worm by removing its index files. Worked ok and user was able to access web etc. I have everything repaired now except that the MS download dowsn't seem to recognize the BLASTER worn and the VIRUS warning pops up continually - Natually repair, quarantine & remove using Norton didn't work either. I tried to change the Blaster file propeerties - no luck (its read only of course)

Have you tried using the tool that Symantec has for free to download at ? Their removal tools usually do the trick when it comes to removing viruses.

First of all, completely disable your norton. Norton has this off the wall tendency to do what it wants no matter the repair of virii.

Disable system recovery (without doing so will return the bad files to your system). free stinger anti-virus program from mcafee... will remove latest virii from your pc.

another thing to do for a free outside source is:
Free complete scan of your computer from 3rd party site. Once all is completed, ensure you have every microsoft update for your system. Reboot.

System should be normal.

Good luck

1. Go to Start | RUN and type REGEDIT and click OK.
Now in the registry, click on MY Computer and go to EDIT and click FIND.
Type MSBLAST.exe or msblaster.exe, when you find it, delete this file.

2. Go to Task manager and end task the MSBlaster.exe.
