Boot up problem with XP

by anigwa . Updated 23 years, 9 months ago

You fellas have helped me before and I sure hope someone can now. Here goes!
My Computer: AMD(Athlon) 1400Mhz CPU, NVIDIA Geforce2mx100/200 AGP 64Mb, DDR ram 512Mb, Turtle beech sound, Maxtor 80G HD,Lomega Zip100,AOpen 12x DVD AMH, Lite-on CDRW, SIS900 Ethernet card.
A while ago I decided to try XP. All my hardware was acceptable, drivers and such. It worked fine for a while then I started having problems with blue screens all the time. I decided to do a clean install. Low formatted the disc and tried to reinstall XP. Then the nightmare starts.
First install I ended up with drive F: instead of C:. Don’t ask me how, I’ve installed hundreds of OS’s. Cleaned disc and tried again. Got to point of install and got a screen that said there wasalready an OS on the disc. Tried again and got it loaded. Next day I boot up and I get asked which OS I want to use. Cleaned disc again.
Pulled computer apart and checked everything. Found a suspect IDE cable so changed it. Now all seems well. LoadOS, great, computer runs great all day and night. Boot up in the morning, get’s to XP screen, blue screen flashes, blank screen, reboots by itself, screen asking if I want to start Windows in Normal, Safe Mode etc. Choose normal, runs great until you need to reboot. Tech guy told me I had the boot sequence wrong:
1st boot-IDE0, 2nd Floppy, Third CDROM. He said, 1st boot CDROM, 2nd Floppy, 3rd IDE0. Makes no difference. Reset defaults and the first setting comes back. Error report says a driveris probably causing the problem, which ?K#@& driver? I have installed every XP driver I can find, system says all OK. PLEASE HELP!!! Sorry for the low points, all I have left.
