boot.ini invalid

By maynard6900 ·
I am running Windows XP and whenever I reboot the computer, it says that I have an invalid boot.ini, it then boots from win32. For some reason, I cannot seem to use the recovery console when restarting the computer. Any other thoughts on how to fixthe boot.ini or get the recovery console to work?

you can simply re-instal windows xp and choose repair command after you have chosen which partition to instal your windows. that would simply repair your boot.ini

I had the same problem kinda. A nice guy answered how to get the boot.ini file:

attrib c:\boot.ini -s -h -r
copy c:\boot.ini a
attrib c:\boot.ini +s +h +r

I recommend copying it from a system that is configured very similar to yours or look up on the net how to write a new one.

When the recovery console screen launches, press the NUMBER of the installation location you need to fix. You must know the admin password to get into that directory. When switching to C make sure anduse cd c Use a copy command to get copy the boot.ini file. By the way, you get to the recovery console during the setup process not as a function key during setup. Hope this helps.
