Browser & homepage hijacking

By peterbakker ·
What are the best tools to deal with Browser & homepage hijacking?

What is the best way to prevent it happening again?

Is netscape navigator less prone to Browser & homepage hijacking, if so which version is best?

Thankyou

Regards Peter

I like to use two tools: Spybot Search and Destroy from security.kolla.de and AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Each tends to find things the other misses. There are a variety available from http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html
for various kinds of browser hijackers.
(note that there may be an extra space added by Tech Republic to each link listed here)

Also an up to date antivirus is indispensible.

It is hard to avoid hijacking sometimes because even innocuous sites can link to adverts that link to nasty things.

Start Page Guard is a start to protecting your system.

Next, I would install a firewall such as Zone Alarm.

Yes, Netscape is a little more secure than IE since some of the mal-ware code does not execute properly.

Rather than Netscape, I suggest you try Mozilla.

Mozilla is the "core" code used for Netscape. Without the AOL bloat.

Add on the Preference Toolbar:

To make turning on and off the built in pop up blocker a single click operation.
