I run a LAn which has several computers out for public use. The security used is basic Windows NT w/ policy, profiles, and permissions. Recently, everyone of the public computers have been giving the BSOD with various stop codes, going into a physical dump. It is not happening to any of the other computers, nor is it happening to any public computers which do not have heavy internet use. Does anyone know of a new virus going around which may be causing this? I know there were some in the past that caused a BSOD but didnt have the stop codes going into a physical dump. McAfee is the anti-virus software DAT files are up to date. McAfee doesnt find anything , nor online scans with Norton. Though all of the computers have had some viruses that Mcafee had detected in the last month but said it cleaned or deleted. ..no pattern of particular viruses. I uninstalled Mcafee and reinstall thinking some of the files in it were corrupt, but didnt help. I’ve invoked the last known good config at boot up but this didnt help either.
one more note: The Gates foundation originally set up the security and they noticed the BSOD when patrons would try to install yahoo messenger and companion ..etc. They posted a fix to stop these keys from being added to the registry. I tried this in hopes it was the problem , but it didnt help either.
Another place patrons visit frenquently and does see mto cause performance problems is www.blackplanetlove.com. They have added a new “IM” feature that stays open in the task bar. The only way you can close it out is to click on the window running in the task bar and then hit ALT + F4. I really wonder if this in itself could be conflicting with our security and causing the Blue screen.
Grasping at straws here and pulling out my hair.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated
