    can not access xp computer

    I have win2003 server on domain. and one xp computer.i can see and ping it but after after upgrading to sp2 I cant ping the xp computer.. please any pelp

      matt , if the basic settings are ok ( tcp protocol, ip address , net mask etc ) then reconfigure the network connection of the xp using the add network connection wizard . also redefine the access rights of the xp , on the server side. if nothing helps , do a backup and tear down the xp and load it from scratch .

      Hi Matt

      This is an easy one. When you install XP SP2, it turns the Firewall on by default, and ICPM packets (ie a ping) are blocked. Log on to the XP machine and configure the Firewall or disable it.

      You only need to add “File and Print Sharing” to the exceptions list of the firewall. That will allow you to ping it.

      Hi,

      I agree with gary. It looks to me that its a simple case of the internal Firewall stopping the ICMP Packets. Turn off the XP firewall or reconfigure it for local network.

      I think you just have to allow file sharing. It will resolve your issue.
