Can you upgrade a windows 2000 domain in native mode to 2003

By JMyers2389 ·
I have a network on a windows 200 domain, in native mode. This is across three locations. One of the locations is using a win xp pro machine as the DC for that location... not sure how.

I am configuring a new server to take to that location and install. It is server 2008, I obviously want it to be a DC. When I try to add it to the domain as a DC, it tell me that I have to run adprep /forestprep.

Problem here is that I have already ran it.. and domainprep but still get the same error.

It appears that the domain being 2000 native is what is keeping the 2008 server from joining.

soooo... if I upgrade the scheme to 2003 before i travel to remote location, won't that make this windows xp DC stop authenticating logon information at the remote locations?
