Can you use a preformatted HD to replace failed RAID 5 HD?

By monkeyseenoevil ·
I am in the process of replacing a failed harddisk in a Dell Powervault 725N running windows2000NAS Server. The "new" harddisk was previously formatted for windows XP but was never used. Will this be a problem for the RAID 5 or will it automatically reformat it anyhow before use? Note, I have already begun the process but it may take another 8 hours for the RAID repair to complete so I ask this question to get a sense of what to expect, thanks.
