Cannot connect to any server

By mustafafafa ·
I've had a XP Media Edition PC brought into the office and I need to transfer some of the local files onto the main file server.

Usually with PC's not joined to the domain I can still connect by running \\servername\foldername from the Run command and it will just ask for username and password of a user with permissions to connect.

However with this PC it just says "Network path not found" when I do this. I thought it may be an issue with it being XP Media Edition but we have one of these in the gym which is only logged into on a local user account but does not have this problem.

It can connect to the internet via the LAN with no problem.

Any thoughts?

Try the net use command from a prompt

Net use \\computename\sharename\ password*

the syntax is here

It is also possible that the computer you brought in doesn't resolve the computer name.

Try to use \\ipaddress\share instead of \\servername\share.

if your domain is configured to not allow access to domain resources w/o being a domain member, you can't do it because fast user switching is permanently 'on' in XP MC.
