Which version of Norton are you attempting to use?
And more importantly, how is your hard drive set up?

If you are using a version of Norton prior to the 2002 version, and your drive is formatted in ntsf mode, the software is not compatable withyour drive.

Otherwise, make sure that you have installed the XP compatability updates from both Microsoft and Norton.

Below is the solution that Symantec offers which can be found at:

http://service4.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nunt.nsf/docid/2001062012010909?OpenDocument&src=hot&prod=Norton%20Utilities&ver=2002%206.x%20for%20Windows%202000/NT/XP&stg=2&base=http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nu/&next=nu_2002_nt_search_solve.html&sone=nu_2002_nt_tasks.html&tpre=

(Remove any spaces in the URL that might have gotten in while copying the address)

I know that this may not be a satisfying solution, but it is the only answer they have.

Product(s): Norton Utilities 2001 v5.0 - WinNT/2000, Norton Utilities 2002 v6.0 - WinNT/2000/XP
Operating System(s): Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP

Situation:
Running Disk Doctor with "Fix Errors" unchecked findsno problems. However, when you run Disk Doctor with "Fix Errors" checked, you see the message "This drive is in use by another process and cannot be repaired. A repair can be scheduled to occur the next time you restart the system. NDD can still diagnose this drive if Fix Errors is unchecked. Would you like to schedule a repair?"

Solution:
This is normal and does not necessarily indicate that there is a problem with the hard drive. Norton Disk Doctor will always display this message when the "Fix Errors" option is checked, and you have selected either the Windows NT/2000 partition or a partition containing the Windows Pagefile.

If you answer Yes to this prompt, CHKDSK /F will be run the next time the system is restarted.

If you are using the latest version of Norton that works with XP, try running NDD from a DOS boot disk. This won't work for an NTFS partition, but it should work for any FAT partition.
