Locked

Cannot save to Floppy

By nobby57 ·
NT machine -- will not save to floppy. After two
tries managed to build ERD. Will format. Will
try to access disk in cleaning routine. But
when attempting to save anything to floppy
disk it displays flying pages graphic, then
locks up solid, and I mean totally -- only
solution is power button. Have noticed that
noise when drive is accessed during power
up and other times is different sometimes. I
Have no second drive to swap -- before I buy
one, any thoughts as to whether this is HW or
SW?

Can you read off the floppy ? Does it appear in the My Computer window ? If not it is time to buy a new floppy drive. With the current cost for a desktop/tower FD from $10 - $25 it is not expensive.

Did buy new drive -- results exactly same. Drive does not lock up computer in DOS so suspect software problem in NT

Drive appears in My Computer; disks can be
read from drive; will format; will boot to Win98
boot disk. I did finally replace it with a new
drive with same results, exactly! So suspect
software problem in NT. Whatever it is locks
things up solid -- so far no apparent corruption
from several improper shutdowns, have
checked with chkdisk and Norton. Simply
cannot write to drive (yes, I have tried several
disks).

Thanks --
