Can't create secondary DNS Server

By qhcomputingny ·
Hello,

Can someone give me instructions on how to create a secondary DNS server in Windows 2000 Server? We have one on the network that is also the PDC. I want to create another one for fault-tolerance purposes. Our network runs DHCP and uses the 10.1.1... structure. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Can't create secondary DNS Server

by Joseph Moore In reply to Can't create secondary DN ...

Take a look at this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/planning/activedirectory/domaincntrl.asp
(please remove any spaces)

It talks about setting up additional Win2k domain controllers, including the DNS issues. There are also some links on the page that might be useful.

hope this helps

Can't create secondary DNS Server

by qhcomputingny In reply to Can't create secondary DN ...

I was able to get the forward lookup working, but the reverse lookup does not seem to be working.
I looked at the reverse lookup on the PDC and there was none, so I created it (it did not give me any errors, so I am thinking it was set up correctly). I then retried to create the new reverse lookup zone on the Secondary Server and it created it, but still gives me an error. Any suggestions?
