      this is cause u havent installed windows properly or there might be some corrupt file. The best solution is format the disk reinstall windows with the same bootable disk you have used for formatting. this will solve the problem.

      I need more details to help you out–I’m not 100% clear about what “faults” you’ve been correcting, what OS you’re using, etc–but here are some things to look at.

      First, what happens when you boot up normally? Can you boot the machine withoutgoing into safe mode? If so, what happens when you try to access the CDROM? Do you have any reason to think the hardware might be damaged?

      There are two ways you can check whether the CD rom is working, from a mechanical/electronic POV. First, you could put it into another computer; second, you could boot in DOS, using MSCDEX. That’s the MicroSoft (MS) CD Extension (EX). Doing that involves adding this line to your asutoexec.bat file in DOS:

      lh mscdex.exe /d:mscd001

      and adding this line to your config.sys:

      device=a:mscdex.exe /d:mscd001.

      You will also have to put mscdex.exe on your boot-up disk. And you may need other device drivers as well; they have names like aspi2dos.sys, aspi4dos.sys, aspi8dos.sys, btdosm.sys, flashpt.sys, and a few others.

      Try what I suggested above, and also, post precise details of your problem, and I’ll try to help you, if I can.

      In Windows 9X, the CD-ROM driver is part of the IDE driver for the chipset on the motherboard.

      You need to download and install the latest drivers for the system / motherboard.

      If you need help identifying the motherboard, check out the tools at either http://www.wimsbios.com
      or http://www.motherboards.org

      You do NOT need (or want) to install the mscdex line in autoexec.bat or config.sys unless you NEED MSDOS mode access to the CD drive.
