Can't save web pics in jpeg, only bmp

By rrazniak ·
I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0+ in Windows XP. The other day, I suddenly became unable to save (save picture as) images off the web as jpeg. Bmp is the only file extension that appears in the copy form. I've had no trouble saving jpeg until 1-11. I tried Gateway tech support (both phone and e-support), where I purchased my 450 notebook, but no solution as yet. Microsoft won't help without charging $245, even though my XP includes unlimited support.

There are two Knowledge Base articles that could address your problem:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810978&Product=ie600

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;260650&Product=ie600

Remove spaces and %20 from the URL. Or you could go enter the Knowledge Base IDs in the Search by Article ID number. The IDs are 250747, 260650, and 810978.

Poster rated this answer. Microsoft Knowledge Base id 260650 contained the solution for my problem. My Temporary Internet pages cache was full. I deleted the temporary internet files by selecting Tools, Options, General tab and selected the Delete Files button. Of course, this is an area of our system we usually do little housekeeping. Unless one does a lot of downloading of images and encounters this problem frequently, a rare occassion of maxing ones Temporary Internet cache can suddenly leave one dumbfounded. Thanks for the the answer and for searching Microsoft for me (when I should have). I steamed out (and shouldn't have) from their e-tech support who wanted $245 to hear my problem - eventhough I have unlimited XP Pro support.
