Can't see PC in XP Workgroup

By tdell2 ·
Recently added another pc to a wireless home network. The new pc is in the correct workgroup, tcp-ip and file and printer sharing installed. This new pc can connect to the network and internet over the wirelss network.
Howvever, when I go to "View Workgroup computers," all show up except the new addition. If I go to cmd and type net view, I see all pcs except the new one.
I have run the netowrk and wirelsess network wizrds multiple times. The new pc continues to access the shared internet connection but I cannot browse to it on the network. I cannot access the printer that is installed on the new pc from the network. Any ideas??

Firewall?

by Toivo Talikka In reply to Can't see PC in XP Workgr ...

Enabling the File and Printer Sharing should automatically allow access to the PC from the WLAN if the Windows Firewall is on. Check the Exceptions in Windows Firewall and make sure File and Printer Sharing has been ticked. You may want to compare the settings with one of the other PCs that can be seen in the workgroup, or just turn off the Windows Firewall for testing.

disable the fire wall and if you have a new pc
make sure you disable or get rid of Norton Internet Security. Then you will be able to see everything you want

Check these settings

check all the settings of your network card. If you are able to get internet connection but cannot see that pc you should check "clients for microsoft networks" marked. If not then mark it.
