Career Changer...What is a way into the field I love?

By Mike3579 ·
I am wanting to change careers into IT. I have been into computers since C64. I love working on and with computers. I build my own boxes and troubleshoot everyone of my friends systems that can find time to help with just to force myself into learning the in/outs of completing a repair.I find it fairly easy to learn new systems and technology. I have attainted my CompTIA A+ cert but during my recent job search even the entry level postings are looking for 4 plus years experience along with MSCE. If I get my foot in the door I can do the job. I am already studying for Net+ and Sec+ I would like to get 70-680 out of the way while it's still fresh but very few places seem to look for MCITP. At least right now.

In what area is your previous experience?

An important part of IT work is to understand the business, in order to better support it. And you might be able to "slide" into IT work from the side, if you were able to find a position where you'd have use of your previous experience...

That is an excellent thought. But the only way in from this career may be as a POS installer. I am a school trained Chef. I will definitely look into that avenue though. Enjoying Dubai? I have been there several times.

Databases, web-frontends, financial stuff...
And you could add in experience on the kitchen-front.
