CD Burner does not recognize a blank CD

My CD Burner was working properly then from one day to the next it failed to recognize blank cd’s regardless of the blank cd’s speed. I have gotten it to see the Blank cd a few times since and have created cd’s but then it dies again.
Any Ideas? Checked for Viruses with Norton.
