CD-RW not burning disks

By rgrowcock ·
I have a Dell Workstation with SCSI CD-RW that I
have been using to burn my backup on for a long
time. Now all of a sudden it will not burn a
cd-rw disk, new or erased, that contains more
than 300 MB. Even though the disk is a 700MB.
I have even tried using a regular CD-R with the
same layout and it gets rejected too.

I am using Roxio's EZ-CD Creator 5.3.1.154 SP4
and I have tried several different brands of
media with the same results. This has been VERY
frustating andI haven't found out why this is
happening.

I think, and am probably wrong, that there may
be a problem when EZ-CD tries to build and
compile the files for the CD. Has anyone run
into this or a similar problem? If so, is there
a workaround?

TIA-Roger

How are you sitting for hard disk space? It wouldn't hurt to do a little clean up of the hard drive to make sure it isn't holding back for your cd creation. Otherwise perhaps your cd rw is wearing out. It happens to the best of them. Are you having reading problems at all or just creation problems? I'ld start by deleting your temp directories followed by the windows\*.tmp files and c:\*.tmp files, run scandisk and defrag and the rest of the usual suspects then try it again. It might not hurt to uninstall roxio and reinstall it in case one of the support files got corrupted.
Good luck

I have about 1.3 and 9 GB free on two partitions, so I am sure this isn't the problem. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling and applying the patch, didn't work either. I tried another disk this afternoon and was able to burn one that was about 500 MB. If this happened on both CD-Rs and CD-RW I would think it was the burner, althought I just had Dell replace it about 4 months ago.

This is really puzzling, and I hope to find an answer sometime. If you come up with other thoughts, please post them. Roger

This has just started, and it was giving me problems before I upgraded to software. I agree with the statement about Roxio. I would use Nero, but my files are further than 8 levels deep and I haven't figured out a way to use Nero.

you said in the above that you would use nero if you could figure out how to go more than 8 levels deep. Does nero burn cd rw fine over 300 meg? If so all your fault seems to be with roxio and roxio support. Try burning it with nero with 5-600 megof data. If you don't have nero there is a downloadable one you can grab off the web. Look for it either through zdnet downloads or any search engine should find it for you.
Good luck

Unistalling and reinstalling Roxio re-enabled the burner.
