CDA mystery

By john 365 ·
I am not an expert and the following has me very puzzled. My computer refuses to copy WAV files from cds cdr or cdrw,s. It shows the size of all of them as 1kb. It refers to wav files as cda. When the files are copied they are 1kb long cda files. Ican copy any other type of file and wav files on the cd can still be played in media player. Any wav files on the hardisk can be copied. The computer is a HP club 80 running windows 98 with Pentium 3 processor. Norton Antivirus and Firewall are installed.(2001) the machine has worked ok for about 3 years until developing this problem. Is it a virus or something else.

Windows Explorer won't show you the wav files on the disk only the cda files. You need a special util to actually see them. Music CDs don't use a folder structure like we are accustomed to but use their own format or layout. The cda file points towhere the wav file actually resides on the CD or where it actually starts so that the CD player knows where to access it. The CD player and software understand this structure.

IsoBuster (www.isobuster.com) will show the wav files as if they wereall in a folder but no cda files.
Windows Explorer will just show the cda files but no wav files.
