certain pages wont load

By mooselander ·
I have a machine running w98 se that wont load certain pages.
cbs.marketwatch.com quickdonations.com cnet download- in Netscape 6.2 it's connection refused. In ie6 it's unable to link to web page requested (currently unavailable).
The firewall is zonealarm pro with nothing listed on the event page pertaining to this.
Other browsers appear to do the same.
All windows updates are current.
java version is 1.4.1_01
otherwise, the computer functions perfectly.
I'd appreciate any response.

I would try Avant Browser. I had a simmular problem and Avant fixed it.

You can visit their page at: http://www.avantbrowser.com

sorry. It did not solve the problem. All three sites refused to load with "page is currently unavailable" page cannot be displayed", Thanks for the browser, anyway.

Well then, you may want to check with your ISP, to make sure the sites are not blocked, also if you use a firewall make sure the sites are also not blocked, as I know my ISP has a few domains blocked.

Anyhow, if all else failes then its got to be a component within your PC. You may have to format to correct this issue.

Are you using Dialup or DSL/Cable?

essentially cable. Other computers on the same router can access these sites so i doubt it is the ISP (I'll check it out Monday). The other computers use zonealarm while this has Zonealarm pro. I tried these sites with the firewall disabled to no avail. Also, disabled the popup killer. Re-formatting is not an option for such a minor issue. I thank you, however, for your time.

Hi ..

Check your "Security" and "Privacy" settings under "Tools", then "Internet Connections". In 'Security' make sure everything that should be enabled is. And in 'Privacy', override the cookies setting so that you can receive all cookies. I would do the same in ZoneAlarm.

Good luck,
Enbee

I override cookies on all machines because we use AnalogX cookie wall. the security settings you refer to are low safety on Java permissions -allow data across domains -prompt-software channel permissions low safety- no change has any effect.
thank you for your time

The first thing I would try is to disable the ?friendly HTTP errors? in IE6 to see if that gives you a clue. (Tools>Internet options>advanced>?Browsing?>-near the bottom, just above ?Underline links?) When you get the ?page is currently unavailable? message it is considered friendly but it doesn?t help you much.

After that I would disable the Zone Alarm and AnalogX cookie wall and see if you can get through. If you do get the pages to work after that turn one on and try again. Then (whether it works or not), shut it off and try the other separately.

Hope that helps.

nothing helped. I even closed Nortons and all other extraneous programs as well. However, when friendly HTTP errors was changed, I was unable to go to Cnet.com at all. After re-booting, the process returned to the previous state. Also, all settings are identical for all machines on the router. This does suggest a software problem. Thank you.

check the cypher stregnth of the browser it needs to be 128 bit encryption. Go to help about internet explorer and look for the cypher there . if it is not 128 try reinstalling browser.. if not make sure all windows upgrades are installed
