Changing our DNS server on the LAN

By dspain ·
Hello, we're in the process of moving our DNS and DHCP server to new hardware. Is there an easy way of doing this or do we have to set everything up from scratch? We wnat to have a new name for the server. They're both Server 2003 SP1 machines

You can have more than one DNS. Bring it up and allow it to replicate from the other DNS, fairly simple. Afterwards, you can shut down your old one....

DHCP - More than one DHCP on a segment can be problematic. Bring up the new one off the network. Get your settings to match the other and bring it up after taking the other one down. You should announce your intentions on this as users will need to reboot their machines in order to renew their leases. Not too difficult to do, just make sure you give your constituents enough notice.
