characters display on desktp after virus

By Casemaker ·
I had a computer that had the trojan.gem and download.trojan virus. I scan the HDD on another known clean system. It found the files jedisco.exe and pwroff.exe and deleted them. Now on the pc the characters are all garbally goosh, meaning you cannot read them more like characters and symbols rather than text. Any thing you click on has the same text. The start button looks normal, the text under the icons is all garbally goop as well. Any item on the start menu as well as any sub item all are unreadable.
Any thoughts

Thank you for your answer. I cannot read anything on the computer so I am unable to see any fonts. All the font choices are in the same garbily goop as the rest of the computer. I know a restore will solve it but just want to see what else might work.

You didn't say what operating system you are using and video card. First thing I would do is start the computer in SAFE mode. If the characters still are unrecognizable then I would think about the system restore that you mentioned earlier. I assume you have already tried to remove the virus? Just a thought.

you don't have to, just right click on anywhere one desktop, select properites (last line), click on appearance (third tab), scheme (choose different one).

What AV program did you use? AVg is not something I would ever recommend. Also, was the AV program's settings set to MAX (heur to HIGH, scan ALL files, etc)?
The main question is, did you try replacing those 2 files from another system? I got a 98SE machine here and neither exist. I also checked my XP pro for you. They must be from some special program, maybe like video drivers (?) if this is what is happening.
You should see if someone has those files. Copy to a disk. Boot your computer into DOS using a 98 boot disk and copy those files into the correct locations. See what happens when you reboot.

Try the steps to restore your default fonts.
You can find the KB article here:
