Cisco MultiHoming

By elmer.rivera ·
hi all,

i have a cisco 2600 with 2 wan interfaces, currently multihomed to 2 different isps. configured the router to have two default routes for load balancing, however, some programs wont run properly. eg. remote desktop connection. but if i remove the other default route, it works fine. is there a way to make this work?

You have two default routes with a load balancing - it means request may go on one link, and response come on another link. Or that one packet goes over one link, and another over the second one.

What could you do - create static route to your destination network (where or from where you need to connect), and route it to one interface. This will guarantee that all packets which suppose to go to the same host will use the same route. And everything outside this scope will be load balanced over two links.

Good luck,

will the static routes take precedence over default routes?
