I hoping that someone here can help me with this problem. I created a VPN server on our Cisco 1841 router and we are using the the VPN Client 4.8.02.0010. After I set it up it was working just fine for the first couple of months, but after I started pushing DNS over the VPN it crapped out on me a couple of days later. So I stopped pushing DNS over the VPN and it still won't come back up. When I try and connect it just says contacting security gateway and then times out say that the remote peer is no longer responding. I have checked with my ISP and they have said that they are not blocking any ports and even they are unable to connect using the VPN client software. I can ping the public IP address and connect to my router thru telnet from home but nothing thru the VPN client.
Does anyone have any ideas of why this could be happening? Any help and suggestions would be great!!
James

looks as if the IPsec communications between the server and clientfails therefore the connection is dropped.
without taking a peek at L2TP communications or IPSec negotiations, can't suggest much except maybe change the server configuration to negotiate but not require secure communications as a test. See if you can make a connection. That might at the least, narrow down what the probem might be.
