Citrix profiles loosing file association

By Ewai ·
Has anyone had a problem where applications in a citrix session loose the file associations? e.g. user happily working in Outlook over Citrix, then attempts to open an attachment - and file association has been lost, "windows can't open..." etc. Also, strangely they loose signatures? This even occurs for admin account which is using a local only profile, all others are roaming with 2003 AD profiles. 2 load balanced servers of Metaframe XPa FR3 sp3, latest client. getting userenv 1020 errors in event logs for reg access but can't track source - possibly related. Have installed UPHClean to handle logoff. Any ideas appreciated.

It could be that you don't have the application that the attachment file requires installed on the servers, for example, if your user is opening a viso attachment and you don't have viso or viso viewer installed on both servers, than the file won't be associated with anything. IF the attachment is a new pdf document (adobe 7) and you only have 5.0.1 adobe installed or you don't have adobe installed on the servers than it will not open up.

It could be if you install applications on citrix as an admin if you don't specify the install for all users parameter, then the application will only work for admins. citrix is a locked down environment for end users. They can't write to the registry, so registry keys for file association have to be written for them, If the keys are written in current user they will disappear when the user logs off. hk local machine is where you should write your file associations so that way every one will have them all the time.

The problem is a degredation - i.e. it works fine for a preriod of time as in your example PDF will open fine for all users, then after a while a user who had previously been able to open PDF no longer can - within the same session, haven't logged off in the interim.
