clean installing win xp

By cookie ·
I tried clean installing win xp on both my desktop and laptop and after saying Windows starting it displayed the STOP: C0000221 Hard Error\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll on both computers. My deduction is that the fault is on the disc itself. Would Ibe right because Win 98 installed without a hitch.

It's not the disc. I ran into the same problem with some old PC. Make sure all your hardware is compatible to run XP. also, if there's SCSI adapter, remove it or disable it. load XP first then re-enable it back.

The desktop is new P4 1.7 gig. I formatted it and then tried to reinstall xp because the original one was compressing the folders for some reason and I couldn't access them. Do you have to make sure the drivers are compatible before you format and install? I have loaded 98 on both computers now, so will I have to format again?
