Cleaning up active directory...

By eheraldez ·
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here had some good tips on cleaning up active directory. Somewhere down the line our systems went to a different naming scheme by the previous administrator. Both the new and old names are sitting in the Computers and my supervisors prefer not to actually delete anything. Basically I just want to clean it up so I can properly audit and document our systems.

How can you clean it up without deleting?

We're just talking network names and such here?

If names/paths included in configuration don't point anywhere valid, remove them.

If you are more explicit on exactly what you need to change, I'm sure that you will receive more specific tips.

create a new OU called 'Obsolete'. Move questionable objects into it. Set any utilities that reference AD to ignore the Obsolete OU. If any are user or computer accounts, disable them. See who screams.
