Clients gone slow after joining SBS 2003 Domain

By solaris_bb ·
Hi,

I recently moved most of the clients @ work from a win workgroup to a SBS domain. The problem is that now most of the clients are running slow.

The log on process is a little longer understandably however simple task like running terminal emulation software and opening local folders is now taking minutes in some cases. Nothings has changed hardware wise on the client.

The server has 4Gb of RAM and a 3Ghz dual core processor.

Any ideas?

DNS problem

by anders_emajl In reply to Clients gone slow after j ...

Hi,
my guess is that you have problem with the dns settings.
Check that correct dns server, ie your sbs server, ip is in the list of dns servers.
the oldfashon way is to use lmhosts file

Trying DNS

by solaris_bb In reply to DNS problem

Hi Anders,

I modified the lmhosts to include:

192.168.200.3 SERVER #PRE #DOM:MYDOM

I also checked the DNS and it does have the correct DNS specified. So I'll see what happens.

Thanks.

anders suggestion is probably the right direction.

shouldn't take longer to log in, if anything should take less time.
