Combine hard disk capacity.

By dominiclct ·
Hi all professor,
I have a SOHO server and I have a 3 SATA harddisk. I understand that if I use the SATA RAID, I'm able to combine the 3 harddisk (2 x 300GB = 600GB, 1x 300GB = backup).
May I know is there any software and do it instead of purchase a SATA RAID?

Best Regards,
Dominic Leow

You need to install the SATA RAID, and see the documentation for witch of raid block is the best for you. (for example RAID 1 you can create for two HDD, where the second HDD is a mirror of the first HDD) for a simple backup you don't need to install raid, you can use any backup solutions (even Windows have a backup solution)

ah, well to answer your question, yes and no. If you buy a Dell, Gateway or HP server, they have their own software which will install configure the SATA controller and SATA array and also install Windows Server.

Haven't heard of anyone coming out with a consumer package that also does that.
