Compatibility of winXP?

By mbatiri ·
Hi every one,
I downloaded winXP pro and now I couldn't play most of our games in XP even with compatibility mode. I reinstalled them in XP but the result was the same. Would you please help me what I can do?

Two things

Firstly....I assume you downloaded XP from the Internet??? Naughty naughty!

Secondly, MOST games will NOT work under XP unless they were written specifically for XP. This is because many games programmers use BIOS routines and direct access to hardware (video memory, sound devices, joystick ports, etc.) and like NT, XP uses a hardware abstraction layer (HAL) to specifically prevent software from accessing the hardware directly or for executing code at the firmware level. You COULD try downloading DirectX9 from the Microsoft web-site...often a later version of DirectX may help with compatibility issues. Compatibility mode under XP is more concerned with visual appearance, colour depth and the way user IO and disk IO is cannot resolve issues which require low level hardware access. This is the same reason why many hardware devices will not work without specially written drivers.
