Computer Crashed, Everything back except AOL

By MongBoyJeff ·
Hi,
This Sony of mine is driving me crazy. I'm missing a Zip File named: C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\ACS\acsd.exe
I can't install AOL because of this, and I just can't find it. This is the exact spelling of the file. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Jeff

Looks like you had a hard drive problem and some file names in the registry were changed to their DOS mode 8.3 names.

The actual path to the file is:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS

If the acsd.exe file is not there, I would stop at just about any store that carries computer items, and pick up an AOL CD.

The AOL installer should find and recover your previous AOL files and settings.

Hi Chas,
The problem with your answer is that I had the AOL CD in my CD Rom and that's when I got this answer.
So, it looks like AOL's going to really challenge on this problem. Do you think I should try to download an older AOL?
I have a CD for AOL 7. What's your thoughts?
Thanks.

I solved the question. Would you believe it was a defective CD?
Anyhow, sorry to bother you and thanks again.

uninstall AOl via the add/remove programs. [you can keep your saved files on the desktop] then open my computer and delete the AOL folder [and all subfolders]. If you have multiple versions on the computer delete all instances.

Then reinstall AOL from your CD.

Thanks, but, I found the answer myself. Of all things the AOL CD was defective.
I'm sorry that I didn't post this right away.
