computer keeps rebooting

By hargoj ·
I have an IBM NET VISTA MODEL 2276, CONFIG ID#Cf20495 i'm trying to fix for a friend. I've formatted the hd-clean. It has all the original components it came with. I try to load win2k or winxp, but the computer just keeps rebooting. If I load it with just DOS, the machine runs fine and everything, no rebooting. Soon as I start loading any win, it starts rebooting. Sometimes it will go through the install, and get to screen right before it flashes the desktop and reboots. Tried hotswapping parts, cpu, ram, hd. Nothing works.

I had a problem like that a short while ago. There was something wrong with the hard drive. Try a Low-Level format if you haven't done so already. Good Luck.

Hi there,
try this:

1. use fdisk to remove all partition from the drive.
2. boot up with xp cd and use option format ntfs before loading windows.
3. watch the format process if it's not uniformly increased the volume, the drive is probably faulty.
4. use a different hdd to install windows.

There are around 20 different versions of the 2276 NetVista series.

The few I looked at should have no hardware issues with any version of Windows.

Has RAM been added to this PC?
I have seen several instances of RAM functioning fine in the POST test, and DOS, yet causes all kinds of problems in Windows.

If nothing else, try swapping the RAM with KNOWN compatible RAM.
(not all DIMMs work in all PCs)

Usually if the computer continuously reboot, the power is the problem. However, when you load the dos, the machine runs fine. Try updating your anti-virus.

This could also be a memory problem because it happens only while loading windows. Try inserting the memory module to the other memory module of not available then try to replace the memory to see what happens.
