Computer shuts off/hibernates

By sherry ·
This has been an ongoing problem: my BOSS's computer (win98 - older model) will shut down if he's not using for a while. Of course, all power settings are to "never" shut down... At one point I thought it might be related to his CMOS battery - which I replaced. STILL "hibernates."

He tells me he's rebooting several times/day.

Anything else I can try?

Thanks!

Sherry

This sounds like Advanced Power Management (APM)which can be disabled from the BIOS.
Seen as you have replaced the battery on the M/B i take it you know will be technically skilled enough to enter the BIOS etc.
Try this see if it helps.

You may check the power supply fan as well as the processer fan. Maybe the machine is getting to hot and causing the processor to shutdown. Check to make sure both fans are spinning and there isn't a lot of hot air.

PROBLEM SOLVE Got new computer!! Actually, in addition to this shutdown problem, the other day, it wouldn't come out of "safe mode." Turned out to be bad motherboard...

V. old computer - so I was happy to see it go.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Sherry
