computer wont connect to internet

I saw a free screensaver and started to download it. It ended not being something I wanted. Went to uninstall and during this process my computer froze. I had to manually shut it down. Now I can’t connect to the internet. I tried to restore my conputer from earlier date and that didn’t help. I ran my spyware and did disk clean-up and that didn’t work. I have talked to my internet support and each person I talk to tells me to do something different. Says my firewall is blocking the connection, change from usb cable to ethernet cable (blue to yellow cable) that didn’t help. Can it be fixed?

explorer and choose connections and lan settings.Make sure either automatically detct settings or a proxy is specified ,which ever is relevant to you and test.

Time to re-install

If none of the operations you mentioned worked, it is time to bite the bullet and re-install your system from scratch. It is far less time consuming and much safer than trying to work out how to fix damage done by spyware and/or viruses.

Next time you go and download something free, get the McAfee SiteAdvisor from http://www.siteadvisor.com and install it as a browser add-on to Firefox or Internet Explorer. Do a search on the name of the application and check the red cross or the green tick signs next to the search results. And watch out for the sponsored ads, those sites can apparently dish out spyware twice as likely as the normal search results (ref. http://www.siteadvisor.com/studies/search_safety_dec2006)
