Connect cable modem to wireless router for wifi connection

    Locked

    by oddy56 ·

I am currently with Virgin Broadband and am trying to connect their cable modem to a wireless router (Dynamode BR-6004 W-G1) and am struggling.

I have read many posts and tried various things and know that there should be an easy way to do this.

All I want to do is connect a laptop wifi.

Do I plug the cable modem into the WAN port? Do I have to power them up and connect them in a specific way?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

to connect to the wireless router from your wireless PC if so thats good then that is half the struggle.

There should be a port in the back of the router just designed for the Cable Modem but so far havent been able to read this. First issue is that the user is able to see the router on the network.

Yes I am able to connect to the wireless router.

There are 4 ports and a WAN port on the wireless router thats it.

ATM I am using the cable modem linked with a patch cable to my laptop.
I am coming up short on how to connect the modem to the wireless router and then get the router to give ADSL to anything that connects to it WiFi. (I have not tried to connect to the router with a cable)

You need to plug the Virgin Broadband Modem

Into the Uplink Port of the Router with a CAT5 or 6 Cable.

That is all that is required to connect the two devices together.

As for getting the WiFi Connection you need to set this up with a wired connection initially and then you can use the supplied install Disc to configure any WiFi Connections on the remote computers after you have the WiFi Router working correctly.

Are you saying that if I connect the modem to the router, then the laptop to the router that that should allow me ADSL to the laptop?

I can not see anything on the disk that can ‘make the WiFi router’ work correctly. This is where I am falling down on how to get the router to give ADSL to whatever devices connect to it

You need to plug the CAT 5/6 Cable into

The Uplink Port of the WiFi Router from the ADSL Modem. You an then with the Router Setup Utility enter the Routers Setup Procedure and configure the different computers to communicate with the Router.

If you want to share Data between the Wired and Wireless sides of the LAN you need to enable the Bridge in the Router otherwise the WiFi and Wired LANs will remain isolated.

You need to connect the Broadband Modem outlet port to the Uplink Port of the Router for it to be able to share that connection.
