connect two computers on wireless

By sssomo ·
I have two laptops connected over wireless. I want to share file in between these two computers both running XP. Can anyone put some light on how to tackle it?

Use a workgroup

Make sure they are in the same workgroup. You can either set up simple file sharing, which basically allows anyone in the workgroup to access anything on either computer, or disable simple file sharing and set up NTFS permissions. There is a networking wizard in XP that you can use - it will probably work OK for you if you don't know much about networking, better than trying to deal with all the technical ins and outs of NTFS file permissions.

Hope this helps!

Yes, but you'll need a bit of time

First, I hope it's the Ad-Hoc connection that you used. After that, put the IP adresses and the sub-network mask (I'm french, I don't know the real word).

After that you should see the WiFi Network, an connect to it. To share files, first you need to create a shared folder where you'll put everything to share and as Curlergirl said, you'd better put the 2 comps in the same Domain.

After if you don't see the Shared folder, you can use the PING method or enter directly in the navigator the IP adress of the other comp :

Something like that will, and I hope it, open a new window where you'll find the shared folder.

If that don't work, I'm sorry for this failure of mine ... sniff ...

Easy peasy

find the folder(s) you want to share, right click on them and choose 'Sharing and security' allow the folder to be shared, it will then become visible to the other computer. (You may need to install file and print sharing as well)

then go to my network place > wireless n/w connection -right click properties
"tick" use windows to configure my wireless network settings ... then advance>"tick" computer to computer(adhoc)networks only > add give ssid(eg; faisu(same in each pc)), network authentication ="open", data encryption="disabled"
if u want this communication secure format . do this type.... network authentication ="shared", data encryption ="wep" same as each pc and also SSID
