Hi, I have a problem connecting Vista Basic to W2K8. I know that it can not connect using “join domain” feature. I just want to use the file/folder sharing features of W2K8. FYI, before I installed Vista SP1 I could only connect 1 Vista Basic client, but after installing Vista SP1 all clients could connect to the server (read/write). But it didn’t last long, after several hours (usually the next morning), when someone wrote the data to the server, suddenly all other clients could not connect to the server (but the server still worked fine when I log in locally). However,by restarting the server, all clients could connect to the server again. This problem almost occurs in the morning. The next step I made was configuring the W2K8 to be a workgroup and created all the user accounts locally (not using the domain/active directory). But..the problem still exists. I have talk to the local Microsoft Representative, they only said that Vista Basic could not connect to the server (the W2K8 will deny the connection from Vista Basic) and I had to buy Vista Business. My question is why it can still connect to W2K8 although finally after several hours suddenly it can’t? (I think if it can’t, it doesn’t have to be that long for W2K8 to deny the connection. Why it should take for several hours? If it’s true then this is a great VULNERABILITY to W2K8). It just doesn’t make sense. And also FYI, before I changed the server to W2K8, I used NT Server 4.0 (configured as domain)…and it worked fine with all the Vista Basic Clients. Can anyone help me with this? Many thanks.
