Controlling LAN email

by kylep . Updated 19 years, 4 months ago

Hi,

I’ve started working at a small company which has a Windows 2000 Server, with Exchange 5.5 installed.

I have created mailboxes on a POP3 server offsite with our ISP and changed the MX records for our domain. The POP3 mailboxes work perfectly and use the same email addresses as the users had previously when they used Exchange.

I’ve removed the exchange server from the user’s Outlook (not the server yet), but when they try to send to another user’s POP3 address (using the SMTP of the ISP’s mail server), the mail never leaves the LAN and is stored on the exchange server.

I’ve tried disabling all Exchange services, but the same thing happens. I’ve tried removing the mailbox from Exchange, but then I get an error telling the user that the recipient cannot be found.

What I would like is all mail to leave the LAN and not be touched by anything other than the firewall!

Could you please help, this is driving me nuts!
