Corrupted Word File

By obplastics ·
I created a lengthy Word document, closed it, everything looked fine. Now I cannot open it in either Word or Wordpad and other computers have the same problem. Word actually crashes when asked to open the file. There is a back-up copy but it has thesame problem.
Is there a utility that might save me from re-creating the file?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wordpad is Word 6.0.
Just a stab, try opening it using the file type:

"Recover Text from Any File"

Normal.dot is the standard template used by Word and is known to become corrupted. I would try deleting your normal.dot, restarting Word and then try to open your file. Word automatically creates a new normal.dot if there isn't one already.

Easy recovery 6 may do the job. If you have another word type processor, like word perfect or a newer verison of word (2000/XP) sometimes may help.

Have you tried changing the extension to a .txt; .rft; .wpd?

Good Luck
