CPU usage to the max

By lashan2 ·
I'm having dificulty with my CPU usage (I have Win XP Home Edition), when I open the Task Manager and select the Performance tab, the CPU usage is up and down from 24% to 100%, and i only have a couple programs open!!! I've scanned my computer for viruses and nothing, all clear!

What should i check next?
Can someone help me with this???!!!

Thank you!

1.) Try running the MSCONFIG. (start/run)
Click on the STARTUP sheet then Select "selective startup" then clear the "Load Startup items" then restart.
2.) Remove all items on the STARTUP menu (right click on START/explore all users/programs/startup)
3.) Click on STart/settings/control panel/system/performance(settings)/click on adjust for best performance.
4.) Remove all *.tmp & *.chk files then defrag HDDS

There are virus and trojans that will load up your memory and hog your machine.

Turn off system restore if it is used in your os. System Restore is used by the bad guys to put their crap back.

Download, update, and run the following.

Look for the file in English CWShredder.exe

Hijack This:

Hijack This is useful in that it shows what is currently loading on startup. You must know what is good and what is bad. Once you check it and fix it is gone. So be sure.

I have had to boot into safe mode and run these.
