cracked my laptop screen & cant get the external screen to work. BIOS prob

By googthings ·
I?m converting a hp laptop into a desktop by putting it onto a plastic box with fans to keep it cool so I can use it as a server for files and gaming etc. the whole reason I?m doing this is because I cracked the screen. I used to be able to boot the laptop and then change to external mode but I can no longer do that... in the BIOS i changed the screen settings to the cracked screen only no external. How can I change it so that it?s only the external screen when I am unable to see the screen????? It?s a HP Pravilion dv2000 from 2007. And all the BIOS are original apart from the screen setting....
I have been to 5 stores and no one has had any screens that I can use for 5mins.
Someone plz help me I?m in need and I would really be thank full!!!

There should be a key combination to output the video signal to the external port. IBM's it like FN + F7 or something like that.

Probably Fn F4

Although it may depend on which exact model the notebook is, I'd think it would be standard for HP.

Toggles through 3 modes:

Should work.

the FN F4 is hardware based not software based (if I remember correctly). If that doesn't work then you are hosed. Time to invest the money in replacing the screen or buying a new laptop.

Try this and reset the defaults

by Jacky Howe In reply to cracked my laptop screen ...

if you give it a bit of time to load up, once you think that you are in then press F5.

Entering the BIOS Setup menu
Entering the BIOS Setup menu requires pressing a specific key at a specific time. If you fail to enter the Setup menu on your first try, repeat the following steps until you are successful:
1.Close all applications that are currently running and restart the computer by clicking Start , Shut Down , Restart the Computer , and then OK .
2.When the red Compaq logo or blue HP logo screen appears, press the F10 key on the keyboard to enter the Setup menu.
NOTE: An alternate to the above steps, especially if the logo screen disappears too quickly to enter BIOS, is to shut down (turn off) the computer. Wait 30 seconds, turn the power on and press F10 or F1 at the logo screen.

Reloading the default settings
Complete the following steps to reload the factory installed BIOS Setup settings:
1.In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.
2.Select Load Setup Defaults .
3.Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).
4.Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup.**&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&rule=16626&product=1817074#c000347**_enter

Replacing the screen would run you $80.00 (USD). It's better if you spend that rather than convert your laptop into a desktop. Here is the screen you need for HP PAVILLION DV2000:
