By schoop.calvinio ·
Hi, i am new to Vlan but i want to know how to create a separate vlan for my VOIP phones. They are connected now to the same port on the switch where the computers are. The phones are like a swith, the connection of the wall comes into the phone and from the phone to the computer. But i want to separate the traffic using a vlan. Let me Know!!

Separate VLANS for VoIP

What brand VoIP phone do you have, and what brand/type switches? Some phones and switches may work with different VLANS for data and VoIP (for example, if you connect PC behind the phone), but some phones can't (so, you must plug phone and PC into the different switch ports).

Another aspect - how do you route between VLANs. Think about VLAN as of "different switch, not connected to anything else". Devices in the same VLAN can communicate to each other, but to make them talking to something else, you need a gateway (usually router).

Good luck,
