I have a file server that has several removable drives in it. At any given time, this causes installed drives to have different drive letters assigned to them. I want to share all these drives over the network and the problem is that share names don’t stay with the drive when it’s moved to a different letter.
Is there any way that I can create a share name based upon the volume label? That is, on a disk with a volume label of “backup” I’d like it to be known as \\server\backup or if a disk’s label was “videos” it’d be shared as \\server\videos no matter what local drive letter it happened to be at on the server.
