You need a burning program like NERO ...

Or ROXIO or even Ashampoo.

These utilities have the capability to make/burn an ISO file and to create a receiving disc that is bootable.

Simply copying each file to a CD will not work.

Did you check the BIOS settings

by kewlharsh In reply to Creating bootable cd

I know it kind of sounds silly to ask, but sometimes this can cause a lot of trouble.
Does your computer's BIOS setting allow you to boot from a CD? Does the CD get a higher priority than the hard disk when checking the boot order?

Free utility

CDBurnerXP - will allow you to make an ISO of the original CD and burn a fully functional new copy.

For future reference it is better to create copies of your important program install discs and use those while keeping the originals in a safe place to avoid damage. Completely legal to do so for any software you possess the original media to as long as you don't give it away or try to sell it.

In the case of making a copy of the Windows Install CD

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to Creating bootable cd

All you require here is a Recording Application like Nero and use the Copy CD option.

If it is a DVD that you need to copy you just use the Copy DVD option in the Recording program that you have installed.

As for making a Bootable Copy of Windows 7 I have always downloaded the ISO Images from M$ and used Nero to copy the ISO and convert it to a Usable Format under Nero.

I haven't had any issues with either of these things in the past and they just work provided in the case of using a ISO Image you Do Not just copy the ISO but convert it as you burn it to the Disc.

In the past I have used Easy CD Creator, Nero, Gear and never had a single problem though I have only ever needed to use Gear once but with both Easy CD Creator and Nero I have used these for many years without any problems.
