cursor and newly typed text disappear

By largewhiterabbit ·
In word 2003 and outlook 2003 my cursor regularly disappears and then typed text cannot be seen unless I click my mouse pointer over that area. I sometimes starts if I backspace over text or hit enter for a new line. If I then put my mouse pointer over the cursor at the new line it appears and if I move the mouse pointer away it disappears after a few seconds.
This problem started when I switched from Office 2000 to Office 2003

There is a feature in office 2k3 that hides the mouse pointer when typing. You can use tweakui to try changing your settings quickly.

tweakui did not help. Cursor still disappears. Another clue. It does reappeaer if mouse pointer is put over the start bar.

The disappearing cursor happens with office XP as well, but as far as the text--well that's a new one on me.
Don't even consider this an answer, it is just for your info.

The text part of the question IS a definite problem--but I found that if I don't type cleanly, I can accidently start typing directly to the clip-board instead of the document. I haven't figured out exactly what the key combination is, but I am really beginning to hate all of the "bells and whistles" in Office.

I had a similar problem where the background of the text becomes black when you click on a line, making the text invisible. Hot sure if this is what you're experiencing. The fix in this case was to reinstall the video drivers.
Hope this helps
